Haiti Earthquake Photo Exhibit by Jay Fletcher – May 15 – June 14, 2012 – Phipps Plaza, Fletcher Gallery Second Floor
To the Haitian community in Atlanta, and the members of The Haitian Alliance:
When I went to Haiti 10 days after the earthquake I knew I was going to see destruction. What I was not prepared for was the strength of the people – The strength of their soul! Their life was torn apart, bathing in the streets, sleeping anywhere there was room but yet they had a zest for life. The Haitian people were not going to give up, and I wanted to tell their story the best way I could; with my camera. I am not going to sit here and tell you how they feel because I can’t. I have not been there, walking in their shoes. I can tell you traveling to Haiti only twice, has changed me as a person. On the second visit I went with others from Atlanta to install several buildings for the main hospital in Port-au-Prince. My wife, Anne and I, along with two other men donated these buildings to the Catholic Mission Board with the help of Dianne Jean Francois, and went to Haiti to set- up the structures and to meet the people again
I have been a photographer for 37 years and live in Marietta, GA with my wife Anne and son Greg. We have always traveled with Greg and shown him as many places around the globe as we could to make sure he understands what others do for a living and how they survive. This has been a great education for him as well as myself.
It is with great pride that I set-up the exhibit “Healing Haiti, The eye of Jay Fletcher” and hope as many people as possible get a chance to experience the images first hand. The exhibit is a series of compelling interpretive photographic images unlike anything I have done in the past. I hope I have created an exhibit of images that will not only communicate the visceral emotion of the effects of the disaster, but will also motivate the viewers to take whatever action they can to help the Haitian people.
I see no reason why this exhibit could not travel, thus raising awareness and money for the Haitian people in Haiti. Would this not be a fabulous thing!
I wish you all the very best and hope you will visit the exhibit with your friends, family and business associates. Join us from May 15th through June 14, 2012. Come to:

Regards,
Jay Fletcher, Photographer
